Tax Depot

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much do you charge for Personal Income Taxes?

A: Check out the Prices section on our website. If you still need answers then call our office and speak to a tax preparer to get more accurate                   estimation.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We are in Kristofor Square. This building also houses the Farm Bureau Agency, Simply Good, and Bikes By Bob. Prior to 2010 it was the                       Meeker Coop Building. Our building is located between Anderson Insurance and Casey's. Right across the highway from Depot Crossing                       (Primary Eye Center, The Dialysis Center, Meeker Title)

Q: When can I file?

A: When you have all of your supporting documents. These include your W-2's, interest statements, investment statements, etc. We CAN NOT                   FILE your return using paystubs until after February 15th. We can create and use a substitute W-2 from your last paystub after February                     15th, but you must prove that you attempted to get your original W-2 from your employer.

Q: When do I get my refund?

A:  We have no control over when you are to get your refund. The IRS and state agencies process your returns as quickly as possible                               while making sure of accuracy. Typically these returns are processed in 10-21 days if not sooner, yet there is no guarentee of actual                             timeframe. If you file and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, the refundable Education Credit, or the refundable Child Tax Credit, your                       return will not be processed until after February 15th. To check the status of your refunds, use the links at the bottom of the page under                     "Services".

Q: How can I pay you?

A: We accept cash, credit/debit cards, checks, or Venmo (@taxdepotlfd)

Q: How can I get you my info?

A: You can go to our "home" page and learn about our options.

Q: Do I have to make an appointment?

A: It depends. If you have questions about a particular situation you have or any changes coming up, you may want to speak to someone                       who can give you some insight to the options that you have. If you don't have any questions you can use our drop off service. To learn                       more about each please see our home page.

Q: How long does an appointment take?

A: It depends. A straight to the point appointment for clients who have been to Tax Depot in the previous year has averaged 30 minutes or                     so. If you are new to Tax Depot then our appointments average 60 minutes. If you are at Jen's desk and a discussion about her summer                     or her future summer plans comes up, then you are going to be needing at least 90 minutes, if not more, for sure!

Q: How long does a drop off take?

A:  It depends. We work on our drop off's after hours and between appointments on a first come, first serve basis. If we are extremely busy-                     it may take up to 2 weeks. If we are not, you may get a  phone call within a few hours. We try our best to get them calculated and filed as                   soon as possible so you can plan accordingly (to either spend that refund or pay that balance due!)

Q: Do you have a website?

A: Ummm, yeah. You are here now! Doesn't it look great?

Q: How can I contact you?

A: Well, there is a page here that is titled "Contact". Click that tab and you will find all the avenues of getting a hold of us.

Q: Who works here?

A: Click the tab "Staff" and you will find all of our information.

Q: Do you mail my return in?

A:  We can if you choose to. We try to electronically file as many returns as possible as then we are able to track the returns easier. Another                      good point of electronically filing is that your return will be processed quicker as there is no waiting time for snail mail.

Q: What am I signing?

A: We need a few signatures from you for your return. Form 8879 is the signature of your return. The Engagement Letter signifies that you                      are aware of yours & our responsibilities in regards to your return. If you are claiming dependents, we will need a signature on the Due                        Dilligence forms stating that you are able to claim those dependents and can prove that you are able to claim those dependents. If having                    any refund directly deposited, we need a signature on the Transaction Summary which confirms that you reviewed the routing and                              account information and it is correct.

Q: Why do I need to give you my ID?

A: While it is not required, it has been suggested that we gather identification information from taxpayers and spouses per the IRS Security                      Summit initiatives designed to help prevent identity theft. I would rather get into the habit of gathering that information now versus                            waiting for it to be required to file your return.

Q: What do I need to bring in?

A: All of your documents that are used to calculate your income and deductions. Please review our checklists on the "Services" tab.

Q: Can you change my Direct Deposit account?

A:  Once the return has been electronically filed, there is no way for us to change that information. You would have to contact the IRS or MN                    Dept of Revenue to see if that is something that they can assist you with.
